Functioning of the Student Council
1. Purpose
The Student Council functions as a student leadership body that supports the school administration in maintaining discipline, promoting student engagement, and organizing school activities. The council also acts as a communication bridge between students and the school leadership.
2. Guiding Principles
The Student Council shall function based on the following principles:
- Leadership through service
- Responsibility and accountability
- Respect for school rules and values
- Teamwork and cooperation
- Integrity and fairness
3. Scope of Responsibilities
Student Council members are expected to support the school in the following areas:
3.1 School Assemblies
- Assist teachers in maintaining order during assemblies.
- Lead or coordinate assembly activities when assigned.
- Ensure students stand in proper lines and maintain decorum.
3.2 Discipline and Order
- Encourage students to follow school rules.
- Help maintain discipline in corridors, playgrounds, and common areas.
- Report concerns to teachers rather than taking disciplinary action themselves.
3.3 School Events and Activities
- Assist in organizing school programs, competitions, and celebrations.
- Help coordinate participation during sports days, cultural events, and inter-house activities.
3.4 Student Representation
- Listen to concerns or suggestions from fellow students.
- Communicate these concerns respectfully to the teacher coordinator or school leadership.
3.5 House Activities
- House Captains lead and motivate students in house competitions.
- Encourage participation and teamwork.
4. Operational Procedures
4.1 Meetings
- Student Council meetings will be held periodically (usually once a month or as required).
- Meetings will be conducted in the presence of a Teacher Coordinator or School Leader.
- Minutes of meetings should be recorded.
4.2 Communication
- Student Council members must communicate student concerns constructively and respectfully.
- No decision affecting school policy may be taken without approval from school authorities.
4.3 Event Support
- Council members must report early for assigned duties during events.
- Responsibilities should be clearly allocated in advance.
5. Expected Leadership Behaviour
Student Council members are expected to:
- Act as role models for other students.
- Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, and maturity.
- Treat all students fairly without bias.
- Encourage cooperation and positive behaviour.
6. Student Council Members Must
- Uphold the school’s values, discipline, and rules.
- Show respect to teachers, staff, and fellow students.
- Be punctual and responsible during assigned duties.
- Lead by example in behaviour, dress code, and academic commitment.
- Encourage participation in school activities.
- Work collaboratively with fellow council members.
- Report concerns or incidents to teachers promptly.
- Maintain confidentiality where required.
- Promote a positive and inclusive school environment.
7. Student Council Members Must Not
- Misuse their authority or position.
- Act as disciplinary authorities or punish other students.
- Show favouritism, bias, or discrimination.
- Engage in arguments, conflicts, or confrontations with peers.
- Use their position for personal benefit or influence.
- Disrespect teachers, school staff, or fellow students.
- Neglect academic responsibilities.
- Share confidential information or internal discussions.
8. Accountability
Student Council members remain accountable to the School Leadership and Teacher Coordinator. Performance may be reviewed based on:
- Discipline and conduct
- Fulfilment of responsibilities
- Leadership behaviour
- Academic commitment
9. Removal from Position
A Student Council member may be warned, suspended, or removed if:
- There is misconduct or breach of school rules.
- The position is misused.
- Academic performance declines significantly.
- Assigned duties are repeatedly neglected.
- Replacement may be made by the school from the next eligible candidate.
10. Recognition of Service
Students who successfully complete their tenure may receive:
- Certificate of Leadership
