Scope: This SOP applies to all the students, teaching and non-teaching staff of the school.
General Rules for Infirmary Use
- The infirmary is intended for students, teaching and non-teaching staff who are unwell, injured or in need of immediate medical assistance during school hours.
- In case of emergencies, the nurse will notify the school Principal and contact the student’s guardians immediately.
- When accompanying a student to the infirmary, inform block in-charge / Vice Principal / Principal or adjacent teacher for class supervision.
- Only authorized medical personnel i.e., the school nurse may administer medication or treatment.
- Infirmary records are updated regularly with name and details of staff (in case of staff), students’ name / class / section / Roll No., time (in & out), symptoms and treatment provided.
- All visits are recorded in the infirmary logbook.
- When accompanying a student to the infirmary, stay with the student until they are attended to by the nurse. Brief the nurse on the incident or condition for accurate treatment.
For Students
- Report to the class teacher or respective teacher if feeling unwell or accidentally injured.
- The teacher must issue a written note / referral slip or send an escort to the infirmary.
- In an emergency, students may go directly to the infirmary with the help of a peer or staff member.
- Students are not allowed to self-medicate; in case of any health-related issue, prior information and medication details from parents is given to the Principal or through the class teacher.
- Resting in the infirmary is monitored and time-bound. If unable to return to class, parents / guardians will be informed for early pick up.
- In case of injury during school activities (sports, labs, break time etc.) report immediately to the nurse, class teachers and Principal.
- Do not leave the infirmary without nurse’s permission.
For Teaching / Non-Teaching Staff
- In case of any illness or emergency, inform the Block In-charge / Vice Principal / Principal before leaving the classroom / staff room / office.
- Ensure class supervision is arranged.
- Follow the medical guidance and treatment protocol.
- After returning to duty, inform your reporting authority if further medical attention or time off is required.
